In
Belgrade, one has the opportunity to visit one of the world's oldest
fortresses. It was built in the 5th century by the Celts (called Singidunum at
the time). For centuries the city’s population was completely within the scope
of the fortress, from which stems its vast history.

Kalemegdan (kale – fort, megdan – field)is the biggest
park in Belgrade. It is located in the heart of the city within the Fortress.
It offer a miraculous view of the conjunction of Sava and Danube river and ’The great war island’. It is a very
pleasant environment full of history, culture and entertainment. Most areas are
accessible to the public and the gates are opened 24 throughout the course of
the year.
In my opinion what makes this park so unique is that, it is
one of the few places to get breath of fresh air in the city. Whether you are
looking for a chill out spot to hang with friends, or a getaway to simply sit
and read a book, it is the one place that carter to all. In the summer it is a
bit livelier with excursions, exhibitions and little groups of people singing
or playing games. The atmosphere is warm and so are the people and the best
thing about it, it’s less than 10 minutes from the city centre.
